Following to the visit in Italy of a delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture of Cuba, it has been signed an agreement between the Ministry and Proyecto Isla Verde.

The object of the Agreement, which is immediately effective, is the realization of a series of plants for the production of biogas and electricity, starting from residues of the animal industry.

It's been established a chrono-program of action to be taken by both parties, whereby the first plants will be launched as soon as possible.

October 28th, 2015

Proyecto Isla Verde srl and Cpl Concordia signed with Corporación Cuba Ron SA an agreement for the construction of a waste treatment plant in the rum distillery of Santa Cruz del Norte, with a value of Euro 10.500.00,00.

The signature of the contract marks the first result of an on-going cooperation between the two companies which started in 2012, with the aim to introduce in Cuba the most advanced technologies in the field of waste treatment and electricity production from renewable sources.

This contract also represents the first major trade agreement between Italy and Cuba in the context of recent efforts to expand economic cooperation between the two Countries, culminating in the visit of the Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi in La Havana in November 2015.

The plant will treat the wastewater of the distillation process, preventing its dispersion into the sea and making a major contribution to reducing the water pollution. The biogas produced through anaerobic digestion of wastewater will fuel a cogeneration unit 3.5 Mwh while the digested sludge, dried and cured, will be a source of fertilizer for agriculture.

The plant will be financed with the support of SACE SpA - the Italian Agency for Export Credit Insurance - with a repayment period of seven years, which will be entirely sourced from the proceeds of the initiative, namely the sale of electricity and fertilizer.

Cuba Ron is the most important company in the field of Cuban rum production, whose brands (Havana Club and Santiago above all) are distributed throughout the world. With this first initiative Proyecto Isla Verde and Cuba Ron gave way to a long-lasting partnership that aims to replicate this innovative approach to all the distilleries in the Country.
